Our World

Project aims:

  • To work in groups, deciding what information about us we need to tell our partner school.
  • To develop a better understanding of working collaboratively with another school in a different part of Ireland.
  • To become more computer literate- using wiki, chat, forum and videoconferencing.
  • To develop our communication skills- how we introduce our self, how to share our interests, perform in front of other children and adults from a different school.
  • We used the chat, forum and Elluminate software.
We experienced a lot of difficulty working collaboratively with our partner school in Northern Ireland. We made attempts many times to set up videoconferencing time, use chat, forum and wiki software but often did not receive correspondence back from them. We did have a Face-to-face meeting but due to the lack of communication throughout the year, it was difficult for the children to integrate. This lead the children to become demotivated by the Dissolving Boundaries experience, which was disappointing. Our principal wishes to continue with the Dissolving Boundaries programme and hopes next year will be more successful.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: W5 Belfast, Monday 17th of June
The children completed laser tag, explored the two science floors and attended a science workshop based on the curricular topic of 'Force'. The children met each other during each of these activities and had lunch together also. We experienced difficulty trying to integrate the children due to the lack of communication throughout the year.

Videoconferencing

We used the videoconference software four times throughout the year. We introduced ourselves, talked about our classwork, recited poetry and sang songs. We also discussed the similarities and differences between our two schools. The main benefit of videoconferencing for the children to learn how to set up the videoconference and how to use the icons.

Schools Involved

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
