Multimedia DVD Yearbook

Project Year: 2010-11

Producing a multimedia DVD yearbook

Students from both schools produced a multimedia DVD yearbook for a particular year group. The Southern students produced a DVD yearbook for 5th year students while Northern students produced it for Year 14 students. In producing the DVD yearbook the students used the Flip video and the imovie software on the Macbook. The DVD yearbooks were an audio visual record of activities during the school year and included interviews, classroom shots, photographs and contact details of the students. The DVD was sold as a souvenir/memory to the students. The classes went through a recruitment and selection process for the jobs of filming and editing, sales and marketing, finance, production etc. The students collaborate throughout the project using the forums and the wikis and videoconferencing. They discussed the tasks and progress they were making. Our Lady's students completed the filming and editing first and started the marketing campaign. To help with the campaign they made a preview of the DVD. This was put on the computer system and shown to the form classes.

In terms of the highlights of the project, the students enjoyed coming up with ideas for the filming and then the filming itself - we have a few budding directors. They also enyoyed the videoconference and general chat with the Loreto girls about the differences in their school systems. The students were delighted when the DVDs were ready to be distributed and the enterprise was complete. Sales of the DVD proved to be very successful and a final profit of £550 was made. The OLS students decided to operate as a social enterprise and donated the profits to the Southern Area Hospice.

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
