CHILDREN REALLY ENJOYED COMMUNICATING VIA THE FORUMS & VIDEOCONFERENCE. MESSAGES WERE EXCHANGED WEEKLY VIA THE FORUM TO BUILD UP A GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP. WIKIS ENABLED THE WIDE RESEARCH WORK OF THE CHILDREN TO BE PRESENTED IN A SHARED FORMAT. EACH SCHOOL WORKED ON DIFFERENT CONTINENTS, OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC SPORTS & OLYMPIC FACTS AND WERE ABLE TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY APPARENT IN THE VIDEOCONFERENCE SESSIONS WHERE EACH GROUP REPORTED TO EACHOTHER WHAT THEY HAD DISCOVERED.

VideoconferencingCHILDREN REALLY LOOKED FORWARD TO THE VIDEOCONFERENCE SESSIONS - BEING ABLE TO ACTUALLY 'SEE' THE PUPILS FROM ST.ANNE'S! I WAS IMPRESSED BY THE PRESENTATIONS BY THE PUPILS FROM BOTH SCHOOLS - INITIAL NERVES EVAPORATED ONCE THE SESSIONS BEGAN AND THE CHILDREN REALLY ENJOYED BEING ABLE TO SAY 'THEIR BIT' TO THE OTHER SCHOOL. WE VIDEOCONFERENCED 3/4 TIMES IN TOTAL. EACH TIME EVERY CHILD REPORTED TO THE OTHER SCHOOL WHICH MEANT THAT THE SESSION LASTED FOR 30 TO 40 MINUTES. WE FOUND THAT AS THE SESSION GOT LONGER THEN THERE WAS MORE CHANCE FOR THE PICTURE & SOUND TO 'FREEZE'. IN FUTURE I THINK WE SHOULD AIM TO ONLY VIDEO CONFERENCE FOR 10-15 MINS, MAYBE JUST FOCUSING ON 1 GROUP AT A TIME. PLANNING THE SESSION WAS VITAL AS THE CHILDREN HAD TIME TO PREPARE WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO SAY AND ALSO KNOW WHAT ST. ANNE'S PUPILS WOULD BE INFORMING THEM OF. THIS HELPED WITH LISTENING SKILLS AS MY PUPILS WERE EAGER TO FIND OUT IF ST. ANNE'S PUPILS HAD DISCOVERED SOMETHING THAT THEY HADN'T FOUND OUT THEMSELVES AS YET.

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
