Who am I?

Project Year: 2010-11

Students getting to know each other through the use of ICT

The focus for the overall Dissolving Boundaries Project is centred on the theme of Who Am I? By way of an introduction to the programme the children were asked to design and make a jigsaw in their DB groups for their partner group to piece together. The jigsaws included individual photographs of each of the group members along with a description of themselves. The jigsaws were then posted to their partner groups whose task was to match the photographs to the descriptions and in doing so complete the jigsaw. Following on from this the children were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and engage with one another through the forums and through video conferencing.

From September to Christmas we had 3 video conferences. The initial VC was to give the children an opportunity to introduce themselves and to become familiar with video conferencing. The second VC was on Firework Safety and the Local Gardaí came into Scoil Eimear to talk about the dangers of fireworks and my class was able to participate in the discussion and make contributions. During the third VC, which was just before Christmas, the children we able to participate in a joint carol service.

For our face-to-face meeting we visited Tanagh Adventure Centre in Co. Monaghan where students participated in lots of outdoor activities and worked together. A great day was had by all.

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
