Cooking Together

Age: 9,10
Project Year: 2012-13

The theme of the project was cooking together which meant that we were making things together: aliens, limericks and sharing cooking experiences.

The aims of the project are the interaction with children from a variety of cultures, learning that we are all the same, increasing the children's ICT skills enabling them to correspond with each other. The children painted aliens and then wrote descriptions which we emailed. The partner school then painted an alien from the description and the two pictures along with the written description were then posted on the wiki. We then cooked up our own limericks and posted them on the wiki with all but the last line or lines and our partner school finished them off. We discussed the finished item while videoconferencing. Lastly we did some baking in our classrooms, the children decided on what they wanted to bake and organised everything themselves. They photographed the event and made a Power Point which they were to present while videoconferencing. They also put some information on to the wiki so that they could compare recipes and baked goods.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Causey Farm, near Kells, Co Meath. Tuesday 14th May
We chose this venue because we have used it before and the children loved it. It is also about half way between the two schools.
The activities included: meeting farmyard animals, milking, bubble making, graffiti, bodhran playing and getting filthy in the bog. The children were split into groups so that they were with their partners. They were encouraged to mix at lunch and break time as well.

We videoconferenced every month, sometimes twice a month. The children chatted informally on several occasions, they also discussed their wiki, limericks and the mini Master chef. The children were keen to talk about the face-to-face meeting and this helped them to connect with each other.

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
