European Countries

Age: 8,9,10
Project Year: 2012-13

Comparison of European countries

The project was to compare and contrast some of the countries of the European Union. The children were paired up, one from each school and they selected a country they would study. The children spoke to each other via videoconferences and worked together on a wiki about their chosen country. The children decided on what information they wanted to put on their wiki.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre. On 26th June we set off bright and early for Tanagh Outdoor Education. We chose this venue as we felt we would get more interaction between the kids if they were involved in activities. The pupils enjoyed three activities, picture orienteering, canoeing and mud sliding. They completed a picture orienteering course in twos, one from each school. They interacted together during the mud sliding and were mixed together in the boats during the canoeing. We concluded the day by eating our lunch together and having a chat in our Dissolving Boundaries groups. It was great fun and a wonderful day was had by all.

Videoconferencing

We videoconferenced whenever it suited and more towards the end of the project. However, for next year, we would like to set aside a specific time in the week for videoconference and start it much earlier. We also would like to have a more structured approach especially at the beginning. The students loved videoconference as it allowed them the opportunity to see each other as well as talk to each other. By the end it made the children more confident in front of the camera

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
