Studied various aspects of the rainforest

  • What is a rainforest?
  • Plants and Animals of the rainforest.
  • Plants and Product of the rainforest
  • People of the Rainforest
  • Environmental Awareness and care.
  • Each group of children will research and present an aspect of the rainforest.
  • They will understand that others live their lives in a different way to modern western lifestyles.
  • They will understand that man's effect on the environment can have far reaching consequences on the world and its climate.
  • They will negotiate with their fellow group members as to the content and presentation of their work.
Both teachers posted comments on the work and the children replied to these. They began to negotiate with their fellow peers, but were shy and a little reluctant.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Funny Farm Adventures, Castlewellan
We had hoped to have a meeting which involved icebreakers and activities. This venue offered good value for money and was reasonably central for both schools. The children completed the activities in their groups and so they were mixed. They took part in laser clay shooting and archery, and also had the opportunity to go on a short train ride (which was popular) a children's playground and go carts etc.

We didn't use VC much - it was mostly not very successful. The first time we used it, the screen kept freezing. The children introduced themselves. We had intended to sing and play each other carols but we ended up being too busy to prepare this, so we exchanged Christmas greetings (each group sent each other a hand made card. We encountered problems at Holmpatrick's end the next time, and didn't manage to VC. We had hoped (and planned) to evaluate the Wikis and agree on editing strategies. We resorted to writing this instead. Problems arose but the DB team were helpful in solving them

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
