Weather

Age: 9,10,11
Project Year: 2012-13

Our project was based on the topic of weather. We wanted to cover as many cross curricular areas as possible

Each school studied weather reports both at home and abroad with a particular focus on extreme weather such as tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes etc... We wrote scripts and made podcasts of a weather report for Ireland but giving extreme weather conditions as mentioned above. We prepared PowerPoint presentations which we shared with each other. We also included creative writing aspect with each group collaborating to write a story together. The children also used both ICT and free hand drawing to create funny weather symbols. We had intended to also have a videoconference where each group could present their weather reports, however, due to other commitments and time constraints, we did not get to do this.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre
We had our face-to-face meeting in Tanagh on Thursday 21st of March. This was our third visit to this venue and each time we have found it to be excellent. It is an ideal location also as a halfway point for both schools. We participated in team building activities, canoeing, mud slide, archery, orienteering, climbing wall and a low ropes obstacle course. Children were divided up into their groups 1-6 and were encouraged at all times to partner with someone from the other school which all children seemed happy to do. Instructors at the centre also regularly encouraged the children to mix.

Videoconferencing

We did not use videoconferencing as much as anticipated due to busy timetable but when we did use it the children loved it. We chatted and the children introduced themselves. They played different games like hangman and x's & o's. We hope to complete one more conference before the end of the year if possible.

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
