Egypt: Then and Now

Age: 7,8,9
Project Year: 2012-13

A study of Egypt present and Egypt in ancient times.

Portglenone PS and Scoil Eanna worked on Egypt: Then and Now - a study of Egypt present and Egypt in ancient times. We began by finding where Egypt is on the world map and then went on to gather as much information as we could about the present country e.g. flag, money, capital, etc. We then went back in time to study ancient Egypt and the time of the pharaohs. We used Moodle forums to make initial contact with our partner groups. We used videoconferencing so the children could see and talk to each other. We also developed our wikis to enter info online about our research and the project.

Venue: Ulster American Folk Park, Friday, 14th June
. This venue was handy for both schools for transport. The schools were divided into 2 mixed groups with groups 1,2 and 3 with one teacher and groups 4, 5 and 6 with another teacher. The groups each had a guide from the folk park and they went around the exhibits. They had lunch together and visited the shop together at the end. I felt it was a very successful trip.

We used videoconference on 2 occasions. Each time the 2 halves of each group spoke to each other. We talked about our visit to the folk park and we asked about each others' interests

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
