Ceol agus Craic!

Age: 9,10,11
Project Year: 2012-13

The title of this project, "Ceol agus Craic" sums up the idea behind our project. We wanted to create a fun, collaborative project while helping the pupils achieve the objectives of the Dissolving Boundaries programme

The project's aims were to improve the pupils literacy and ICT skills while also developing their understanding of communities across the border. Through our communication throughout the year, we created a project which the children really enjoyed and which we feel helped to achieve these objectives. By comparing discussions that we had with our pupils at the beginning and end of the project, the growth in the pupils confidence in using ICT is obvious, as well as their own personal growth.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Gr8 Entertainment, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, Wednesday April 10th.
The pupils from St Malachy's PS and St Paul's SNS met in Gr8 Entertainment, Castleblaney. We chose this venue because it had lots of fun activities for the children, there was a hot lunch provided and we felt it was a convenient meeting point for the two schools. During the day, the pupils played bowling together, they had go-karting races, played football and had lots of fun in a play centre. This type of venue really helped the two groups interact with ease as all of the activities were completed in mixed groups. It was a fantastic day - both schools really had a wonderful time!

Videoconferencing

St Malachy's PS and St Paul's SPS. used videoconferencing on a number of occasions this year. Initially we used videoconferencing to introduce the two classes to one another. On another occasion, Mr McCusker's class performed "Molly Malone" for Ms Cooney's class. On March 6th, the classes had a very special guest join a videoconference session - Minister for Education, John O'Dowd. Minister O'Dowd found the Dissolving Boundaries project fascinating and asked the children many questions about the work they have completed with one another. Both classes really enjoyed the videoconferencing sessions and it was clear to see how theircommunication skills and confidence grew throughout the year

Schools Involved

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
