Backgrounds of 6 major religions

Age: 8,9
Project Year: 2012-13

We looked at the backgrounds of 6 major religions.

Our main project was looking at the backgrounds of 6 major religions. We divided it into "Main Beliefs", "Places of Worship", "Major Festivals" and "Rites of Passage". Each DB group had a different religion to work on.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Croke Park, Dublin, 8th May 2013.
We chose this venue as the children from both schools were interested in the GAA and its history. We prepared the children for the tour by looking at the history of the GAA and Croke Park itself. We were split up into two groups, half from St Mary's and half from NKETS in each group. We ensured that the children stayed in their DB groups ie group 1 children from both schools had to stay together, group 2 the same etc. We made sure the children introduced themselves to the others in their group before the tour of Croke Park began. They recognised the names and faces of the other children from the forums, pupil profiles and videoconferences we'd done throughout the year.

Videoconferencing

We videoconferenced once per term. The children from NKETS prepared a power point presentation about Celbridge which we presented during our first videoconference. The children from St Mary's presented a PowerPoint about the Titanic. They gave us some questions to research which we did. St Marys prepared an A to Z about Draperstown which they presented. NKETS children sang some Irish songs for them.

Schools Involved

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
