Where in the World?

Age: 9,10
Project Year: 2012-13

Pupils studied a variety of topics

Our planned activities were: Pupil profiles, SESE—Geography and the differences between the two counties; Facts about European countries; Novel - "Under the Hawthorn Tree"; Diary writing;
Our aims were: To use wikis, Moodle and Elluminate; to communicate through the written and the spoken word; To research, elicit, share and record factual information; To develop the use of digital imagery;
Online Activities done: Profiles; Messages, Our Counties; European Countries;
We worked collaboratively on the "Counties" project and produced wikis to show the differences and similarities between the two counties; We did the same with the European country but before we produced the wiki we had a videoconference session where the children had to state a fact which they had researched, while the other school had to guess which country the fact was about.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Blanchardstown Activity Centre and National Aquatics Centre, Dublin, June 19th, 2013
It has worked for us before and why change something when it works. In two mixed groups the children first do Bowling and Quasar. They then have lunch together and a very quick shopping trip around Blanchardstown Shopping Centre to spend those Euros they have been saving up for the day. The excitement then reaches a new height as they spend the rest of their afternoon together in the National Aquatic Centre. The children from the North pick us up at Heuston Station, Dublin and from the outset the children share seats and yap. The activities are split into two groups and within these groups the children are evenly mixed. By lunchtime they have already formed bonds and friendships.

4-5 times, Quizzes, Profile hunts, Novel questioning. Confidence in oral language skills & aural language skills (which are much more difficult to develop!), Organisation and leadership within the groups, roles and completion of tasks within the working groups, pupils building up and increasing their confidence in their use of Elluminate.

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
