Healthy Lifestyles

Age: 11,12,13
Project Year: 2012-13

The theme of our project was 'Healthy Lifestyles

Pupils were divided into groups and each group was given topics based on the main theme. The topics included: Food groups; Effects of smoking; Effects of alcohol and drugs; Importance of exercise and Profiles of famous sportspeople. Pupils initially communicated with each other via Moodle and then via videoconference. Pupils were able to discuss their project using Elluminate. They edited each others' work on Wikis and added their own contributions. At the end of the project, pupils were given a worksheet with questions on all the wikis, this meant that all pupils had the opportunity to read everyone's work to find the answers to the questions. Pupils also created posters on their wikis which they presented to each other via videoconference.

Face-to-Face meeting

Venue: Bundoran, Co Donegal
The Face-to-Face meeting took place on the 13th May. This venue was chosen because it is approximately 2 hours away from each school. Bowling was the main activity and the teams consisted of pupils from each school, providing the opportunity for them to mix with each other. The activity was engaging and fun for all pupils

We videoconferenced four times with each other. This activity allowed pupils to discuss their project, they thanked each other for the Christmas cards they made and they presented posters on their wikis to each other. Videoconference is a much more personal way of communicating. It also develops pupils' listening skills and encourages the routine of turn-taking. Videoconference was an activity that greatly enthused the pupils and they always looked forward to it

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
