Places & People of Interest in Our Locality

Age: 8,9,10
Project Year: 2012-13

Themes: Landmarks & famous people from each area

Aims: To promote a better knowledge of Belfast/Mullingar, its history/geography and its people.
Activities: Online research, class groups reporting to each other, use of wikis, forum and chat to keep the partner class informed and allow partners to ask questions or contribute information. Collaboration through chat/forum - kids asking questions about each other's work and looking up their own information based on what the others were doing.

Face-to-face meeting

Venue: Tayto Park May 2013
Venue was convenient to both schools and allowed ample opportunity for schools to mix. Both groups were split into their DB groups to enable kids to mix more. Visit to animal sanctuary, Tayto factory, picnic together and adventure activities (e.g. zip line, sky walking, extreme climbing wall, air jumping and sieving for gem stones) and played together in the Adventure playground. To ensure the schools mixed we put the children in their DB groups for factory/animals tour. They had to 'find their DB partners' and teachers encouraged the children to ask each other questions throughout the day.

Only with partner teacher and the connection from RoI was not strong enough so it was never used with the class.

Media Gallery

For Dissolving Boundaries Day 2014 we invited schools to send us short video recordings that show what DB means to them. We've pieced these together into a movie!

A documentary about linking schools through ICT; case studies of cross-border links between Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Dissolving Boundaries programme and in Israel through the TEC program.
